 Satinder Sartaaj also known as Satinder Sartaj, is an Indian Punjabi singer and poet. Since then his popularity has seen a constant surge among the Punjabi diaspora with his shows being held in many countries across the world,

      Early life, Education and Marriage

Satinder Sartaaj was born in Bajrawar village of Hoshiarpur, Punjab. He did his schooling from the government schools in his village and the nearby villages Chahewal and Patti. He started performing on children stages by the time he was in class 3rd. After that, he joined Government College, Hoshiarpur to complete his graduation in Music with Honours. He also joined Sangeet Visharad, a five year diploma in classical music from Jalandhar. After completing his graduation and diploma, Satinder went to Punjab University, Chandigarh for a Masters in Music. He went on to complete his M.Phil and then a PhD. Satinder also completed a Certificate Course and Diploma in Persian language. It was in college, when he also started writing poetry and adopted his Takhallus (poetic name) Sartaaj. He got married with his long time love interest Gauri on 9 December 2010, Thursday.

                     Performances

Before rising to fame, Sartaaj participated in and won many musical events. He appeared on Zee Antakshari show, a popular Indian musical show hosted by Annu Kapoor, performed in the folk category and won appreciation. He was a first runner-up in the 24th All-India Light Vocal Festival and a topper in the Punjab Heritage Foundation Competitions. In his own words, he says: 'Although I sang in university fests and the like, my performance at the Punjab Kala Bhavan-16 made me find my true calling.' Sartaaj has also featured in a documentary on the life of Baba Bulle Shah on Alpha TV. his first film soch lo in 2010 . 

 

     ACCUSATIONS OF PLAGIARISM

In April 2010 Tarlok Judge, a Ferozepore based Punjabi poet, accused Satinder of using one of his couplet "Aasan aag de vastar paune ne, nazdik na ho" published on page 24 of his book Ehsaas de Zakham in his song. Tarlok went on to claim that in this song, Satinder has used couplets by various Punjabi writers without giving due credit. He warned of leveling charges in court in the case he refuses to aplogize. In August 2010, Tarlok sued Sartaaj and his Canada-based promoter company Mahal Enterprises Ltd. In September 2010, Sartaaj apologised to Tarlok Judge in a personal meeting and also gave a written apology to him after which he withdrew the case.

Again in April 2011, Surinderpreet Ghania, a Bathinda based Punjabi poet, accused Satinder of using one of his couplet "ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਮਹਿੰਗੀਆਂ ਇੱਥੇ ਜ਼ਮੀਰਾਂ ਸਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਨਮਾਨ ਲਾਵੋ ਕੌਣ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਹਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ" on PTC Punjabi TV Channel during an interview with the host Baljit Balli.

Teaching

Dr. Satinder Sartaaj was lecturer at the Department of Music in Panjab University in Chandigarh for ten years.
